An Israeli professor has suggested rape as a military strategy. The way to deter "terrorists," according to Dr. Mordechai Kedar of Bar-Ilan University, would be "the knowledge that their sister or their mother will be raped.” Kedar is a professor in the University's Arabic Department, a research fellow at the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies, and a past chairman of the Israel Academia Monitor organization.

Some Israeli feminists sent a letter to Bar-Ilan University president Rabbi Prof. Daniel Hershkowitz, complaining of Kedar’s “words of incitement that grant legitimacy to Israel Defense Forces soldiers and Israeli civilians to commit rape.”

Kedar and Bar-Ilan issued a joint statement saying that he didn't really mean it.‏
